The European Urban Initiative (EUI) sees itself as a new hub for sustainable urban development in Europe for cities of all sizes. It aims to build the capacity of urban actors and knowledge transfer and promotes innovative measures.
The EUI is now for the first time calling for proposals for EUI-Innovative Actions, namely innovative projects that embody real-life examples of the New European Bauhaus through their sustainability, inclusivity and aesthetics and contribute to the realisation of the European Green Deal.
While there are no requirements in terms of expected submissions, project applicants are invited to consider the following four topics as they have great potential to demonstrate innovative solutions:
- Building and renovating in the spirit of circular economy and climate neutrality
- Conservation and transformation of cultural heritage
- Adaptation and transformation of buildings for affordable housing solutions
- Regeneration of urban spaces
This Call for EUI-Innovative Actions was launched in mid-October with a budget of €50 million ERDF.
Project proposals can be submitted by urban organisations from EU Member States until 19 January 2023, 14:00.
Each project will be co-financed with up to 80% ERDF funding, with a maximum of 5 million euros of ERDF funding available per project for a project duration of up to 3.5 years.
Online applications can be submitted via the EUI's Electronic Exchange Platform (EEP).

The European Urban Initiative (EUI) is also looking for around 4 theme coordinators and 20 experts with in-depth knowledge of the proposed topics.
