MSc Eng. Etelka Barsi Pataky, former President of the Hungarian Chamber of Engineers passed away at the age of 77 on 5th February 2018.
As founding member of the Chamber she was member of the presidium of the Budapest and Pest County Chamber from 1996-2000, and president of the Hungarian Chamber of Engineers from 2009 to 2017. She was an active and devoted leader of the engineers.
She started her political career at the time of the change of the political system in Hungary in 1989, and as member of the Parliament in Hungary she had an important role in accepting the “Act on the Chambers of Engineers and Architects” in 1996. She was Member of the European Parliament from 2005 to 2009.
The ECEC awarded her with the “ECEC Medal” 2014 on the occasion of the 2nd European Engineers’ Day, recognising her activities in promoting internationally the engineering profession and engineers in various fields of the politics.
